I was born and raised in the beautiful and chaotically charming city of İstanbul. After graduating from the German High School İstanbul, I finished a B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in Koç University, during which I took part in research projects conducted in the Optical Microsystems Laboratory. As a member of a family full of medical doctors, I merged my interest in medicine with my engineering skills and completed a M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering in Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands. During this study, I conducted my graduation project on beam-profile visualisation of ultrasound harmonics by means of a prototype imaging system utilizing the Schlieren phenomena in the Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam. Always being fascinated about optics, medicine and engineering led me back to İstanbul and the Biophotonics Research Group in Biomedical Engineering Institute of Boğaziçi University.

Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering as a member of the Medical Lasers Laboratory of Biomedical Engineering Institute of Boğaziçi University. My dissertation project is to develop a non-contact temperature controlled surgical laser system for the purpose of ensuring patient safety and surgical success.

During my graduate study in The Netherlands, I realized that engineering was a slow cooking process to satisfy my craving for creativity. Thus, I reimmersed myself into my former passion, photography, in parallel to my academic work. I improved my photographic vision and technique with the help of my knowledge in optical science, and through continuous self-education and meticulous experimentalist practice.
